In response to increasing demand for virtual guest appearances at Zoom rehearsals, virtual music class sessions, and other remote learning needs, Dr. Patterson has created several options for enhancing your online rehearsals and music class meetings this fall. Meet the Composer

Mark shares insights about a specific piece or pieces of his in your ensemble’s repertoire including the inspiration behind the work and a meaningful exploration of the text. This session can include Q&A time with your singers or time to listen to their rehearsal or performance and provide helpful feedback.

Duration: 30 minutes Fee: $100

Inside the Creative Process

For students or singers who have an interest in composition or are just curious to know more about how musical works are created, this session provides a behind-the-scenes look at Mark’s compositional process. Topics may include: sources of inspiration, the creative process, text selection and analysis, specific parameters for choral groups, and handling creative challenges that arise along the way. Q&A
time with your singers is included.

Duration: 45 minutes Fee: $150

Composition Course 

This six-week course is custom-designed for your group and taught live via Zoom by Dr. Patterson. Each 45-minute session typically includes a short lecture-style presentation with demonstrations and examples, creative but brief assignments for students to complete, and time for sharing and listening with specific feedback provided. Topics covered include melody, harmony, rhythmic interest, text
issues, range considerations, the architecture of a successful musical work, and areas of creative inspiration. Depending on class size the course can culminate with a brief composition recital showcasing students’ work. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels available.

Duration: Six 45-minute sessions Fee: $1,000
